US Airborne divisions made their mark during the battles in Sicily in 1943 and carried out their most famous operations during D-Day in June 1944. After these intense battles, they withdrew from the front lines to rest and re-equip. Dressed in the new green M-1943 uniform, used by the entire US military to standardize supplies, the divisions, including the 101st 'Screaming Eagles' and the 82nd 'All American', would play a vital role in Operation Market Garden. This ambitious plan aimed to open a corridor through Holland by parachuting in several American, British, and Polish airborne divisions to capture key bridges.
