The Gundam universe, an iconic segment of science fiction, has evolved from a groundbreaking anime series into a beloved franchise with a worldwide following. The series debuted on television screens in 1979 and quickly became a cult classic with its unique insight into robotics and war drama. Today, Gundam's influence stretches far and wide across animation, toys, and model kits. Let's dive deeper into Gundam's history and its transformation into household icons in our living rooms.
Gundam's Origins
When Yoshiyuki Tomino and Studio Sunrise introduced "Mobile Suit Gundam," they changed the genre forever. The original series presented a more realistic portrayal of political and military conflicts, contrasting with earlier anime series' tendency for simpler narratives. This laid the foundation for Gundam's development into a global sensation.

These models, often called Gunpla (short for Gundam Plastic Model), offer fans the opportunity to create their own pieces of the Gundam universe.
