Pharaoh Neferkare Shabaka, blessed by the ancient Egyptian goddess Khepera, ruled with absolute power. In honor of Khepera, daily blood sacrifices were performed in his name, which led to Kushiterra gaining the service of Custos Crypta, a sentient insectoid species that acted as both guardians and stewards of Shabaka and his people.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut the passage of time and human treachery led to Shabaka's assassination by his nephew Taharqa. The remaining Custos Crypta were buried with their pharaoh in the pyramid of el-Kurru, but all was not as it seemed. The Crypt Guardian, the last of its kind, survived by entering cryptobiosis, and when the pyramid was excavated by George Reisner in 1919, it was taken to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
